SERMON NOTES
A Ruler Shall Come Forth
Dr. Ritch Boerckel
Micah 5
In the Christmas story God calls attention to . . .
1. Our sin.
2. His Messiah’s justice.
3. His Messiah’s humanity.
4. His Messiah’s deity.
5. His Messiah’s salvation.
Three responses to God’s Messiah:
1. Intellectual affirmation with no internal heart of worship.
2. Intellectual affirmation with internal hostility.
3. Joyful worship.
discussion
- Why does God spend so much time in His Word teaching us about the unhappy subject of our sin? How is this subject necessary and helpful to us?
- Why is the Messiah’s humanity necessary? What benefits do we receive from the Messiah being fully human?
- Why is the Messiah’s deity necessary? What benefits do we receive from the Messiah being fully God?
- What aspect of the Messiah’s salvation causes you to rejoice?
