It was Christmas Eve in the year 1875 and Ira Sankey was traveling down the Delaware River on a steamboat. Ira Sankey was recognized by some of the other passengers; his picture had been in the newspaper in coordination with some of the evangelistic meetings that Dwight L Moody had been holding. Ira Sankey was Dwight L. Moody’s song leader. The passengers asked Ira Sankey if he would favor them with a song from the list that he had written.…
