“Beware lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.” You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.” Deuteronomy 8:17-19 (Context: Deuteronomy 8:1-20)
This precious warning that God lovingly communicated to his people long ago powerfully applies to us today. Temptations abound in our modern world to worship the idol of self-reliance and walk away from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Cor 11:3). May we heed this warning today and commit our way to the one true God and rejoice in the blessing that he promises will follow.
