Video Discussion Q+A
1) What was Saul going to Damascus to do? Who gave him that authority?
– He was going to Damascus to bring Jesus followers back to Jerusalem bound and put them in prison for believing in what he believed to be a false messiah.
2) What did Saul see on his way to Damascus?
– He saw a vision from heaven of a bright light and heard the voice of Jesus asking him why he was persecuting him (which also meant his people). Because of this vision he lost his sight and was led to Damascus blind.
3) What did Jesus tell Ananias to do in a vision? Why was he afraid?
– Jesus told Ananias to go to the house of Judas where Saul was. Ananias was afraid because he had heard of Saul’s passion for persecuting people who followed Jesus. This was very risky for Ananias because how did he know Saul had really changed? Ananias’s life would have been in danger if Saul was still out to persecute and kill christians.
4) What changed about Saul after Ananias’s visit?
– Saul regained his sight, he had scales fall off his face, and he received the Holy Spirit and was baptized. Saul had physical and now spiritual eyes to see true reality. He was a new creation. This should lead us to ask questions about ourselves and if we’ve truly seen Jesus. Has Jesus and his message changed us?
5) What did the jewish leaders want to do to Saul when they found him preaching Jesus as the Messiah? How did he escape them?
– They wanted to kill him. The very thing he was doing to Christians before, they were about to do to him. They could not refute him when he argued with them that Jesus was truly the messiah, and so they wanted to put an end to his life. The persecutor is now the persecuted. He escaped by being let down through a hole in the city wall.
